How are internet marketers like Politicians? I can hear it now – is it because internet marketers are liars? Haha – no! Well, not in MOST cases! (Not to say that politicians always lie – not always anyway.)
Well then, where’s the similarity??? I will tell you – if you are a successful online marketer who is into personal branding, then you will have your haters – just like every politician!
From time to time people will send you nasty little emails or leave you a less than polite comment.
Let me see, I’ve had people opt in to my list, and then turn around and call me – telling me to take them off my list and asking me how I got their name. Then they may say something like, “I hope you don’t charge my credit card!” I’m thinking….um, WHAT credit card? They have never even bought anything from me – I have no way of even getting that information! I guess they think I have telepathic abilities or something 
I’ve written a blog post and had someone accuse me of being a “plant” trying to discredit a certain company – when I was actually complimenting the company! I don’t think they even read the actual blog post.
And then there’s the people that leave the “dirty” comments – well, I’ll spare you the details on those. I don’t even approve those – they don’t deserve to be approved!
But the point is, if you are going to be a successful internet marketer, you’d better have some tough skin so that you can deflect hateful comments. It is impossible to be out in the public eye, gaining popularity – and to have everyone agree with you.
My fellow online marketer, Cedrick Harris always says – you have to have tough skin like a Rhino – where nothing can penetrate through it! You need to stay laser focused on your goal. Don’t worry about what the haters are saying! And anyway, they are not paying your bills, are they?
Yes, when you get your first nasty comment you may be taken back a little. But, hey, that just means that you are doing something right! You are being brave enough to put yourself out there and gain exposure. I’ve heard many marketers say that if you never get any negative comments, you ain’t doing something right!
So, don’t be afraid of the haters – haters keep hating and you keep making – making that money, that is – haha, yes, I’m corny sometimes. But in all seriousness…if you are offering valuable content, then the good comments will FAR outweigh the bad. And that’s what it’s all about.
